REVIEW: Pilot Parallel Pen

A few months ago, curiosity made me order these weird looking pens. This week, I finally decided to unbox them and give them a spin!

Each pen comes with 2 ink cartridges (Black and Red), Nib cleaner, and Instruction booklet.

In the box: pen, cartridges, and nib cleaner.

The Pilot Parallel pens have two parallel plates as nibs. They come in 4 sizes: 1.5mm, 2.4mm, 3.8mm, and 6.0mm. These pens are usually used to write Gothic type of letters but then again, who gives a limit to what you can do with your pens? I saw some illustrators use these pens for drawing as well as cursive writing!

These pens can create broad lines as well as sharp edges and fine straight lines, depending on how you angle the pen while writing. The ink flow is very smooth given that the pressure applied is even. Here's a preview of my practice sheets:

Another great thing about these pens is that you can blend colors and create gradients! All you need to do is to touch the nib of one parallel pen to another parallel pen loaded with a different ink color and VOILA! Magic! (Okay, disregard my bad gothic handwriting haha)

The only thing I don't like about this pen is that the ink runs out pretty fast (say about 1-2 hours straight of writing) T_T

Now off to do some more practice!
